A new release that redefines geosciences and engineering

The Paradigm 2011 release is the largest synchronized release of exploration, development and production technology in the company’s history. A result of years of research and development, the release carries the signature of innovation that the industry has come to expect from Paradigm™, with new, game-changing technologies that redefine workflows and best practices across the E&P chain. The release also expands Windows^® 7 platform support to Paradigm’s full interpretation suite.

In addition to the introduction of a rich set of geoscience and engineering applications, this release enhances multi-disciplinary collaboration, enabled and strengthened by expanded data integration, an intuitive user interface, and a highly ergonomic design.

The release introduces measurable product performance with the expanded use of multi-core (CPU and GPU) applications for seismic imaging, seismic attribute calculations, voxel interpretation and subsurface modeling. Productivity is enhanced with integration improvements and new workflows, such as interpretation with modeling, and new knowledge control and auditability solutions for multi-scenario management.

	Modeling while interpreting In the 2011 Release, Paradigm has combined the best interpretation application in the industry, SeisEarth^®, with the best modeling solution, SKUA^®, to create an interactive workflow that allows geoscientists to validate their interpretation as they work, and, with one click of a button, create 3D maps and outlines that are consistent in 3D space. The integration between SeisEarth and SKUA enables the incorporation of all data types into the model.
	Pre-stack interpretation in SeisEarth The SeisEarth multi-survey interpretation system offers the most versatile interpretation and visualization tool available to geologists and geophysicists. New user interface customization tools make it easier than ever to optimize the time spent working on the data. In Paradigm 2011, new capabilities to directly display, interpret and analyze pre-stack data greatly expand the scope of possible workflows. Anomalies can be directly checked by looking at the gathers, and the quality of difficult reflectors under complex overburden can be verified, ensuring better insight into uncertainties as well as validating interpretation choices.
	EarthStudy 360^® A brand new invention designed to image, characterize, visualize and interpret the total seismic wavefield, to provide previously unattainable levels of subsurface knowledge.
	Prospect validation As part of its unique interpretation modeling solution, Paradigm 2011 introduces new tools for prospect validation, such as the computation of 3D fault seal properties, spill point probability, fracture probability, paleo-basin geometry reconstruction, and 3D fault and horizon structural uncertainty analysis
	Advanced geological interpretation The StratEarth^® multi-platform geologic correlation and mapping solution takes a leap in productivity with the introduction of an automated map creation capability. Multi-scenario correlations can be evaluated instantly, facilitating decisions in complex depositional environments. Fully integrated into SeisEarth, StratEarth is able to seamlessly access the same seismic, interpretation and well log data used by all Epos-based applications. This unique capability, together with new tools for managing production data for existing fields, and assisted by the common stratigraphic column that is shared with the full-detail SKUA modeling system, ensures geologically-consistent interpretations of all subsurface data.
	Multi-scenario reservoir modeling and engineering analysis The unique flow simulation grids in the SKUA modeling suite are now complemented by geomechanical grids for use in coupled geomechanics and flow simulation, to better predict production in compactible reservoirs. The new SKUA scenario object management functionality lets users easily manage different geological and production scenarios to perform a sensitivity analysis.
	Automatic seismic facies extended to 2D data The neural network classification of seismic data introduced by Paradigm in the 1990’s is still the industry reference for fast and highly insightful analysis of the stratigraphic meaning of variations in the seismic waveform. Paradigm 2011 makes this same technology available for 2D data, unleashing powerful capabilities to take this automated stratigraphic tool to a larger regional scale.
	Seismic-to-well calibration with multi-attribute analysis These capabilities are integrated into the main visualization window as a natural extension of the interpretation workflow, providing a sophisticated yet easy-to-use solution for interpreters and reservoir characterization experts alike. Multi-attribute seismic and multi-attribute synthetics are automatically matched with one mouse click. A unique multi-well functionality enables the simultaneous processing of many wells within a shared visualization framework, for easy QC and management of the calibration workflow. In the multiwell approach, all wells can be processed together in a well-defined and logical workflow, generating a single wavelet that characterizes the seismic data. The calibration utility includes elaborate QC and log visualization windows. Integration with rock physics technologies supports high-end quantitative interpretation workflows.
	Embedded Well Designer The Paradigm 2011 Release includes an enhanced version of the Sysdrill^® Designer well planning tool. Fully embedded into the Paradigm SeisEarth 3D Canvas, Sysdrill Designer enables interpreters to interactively pick geological targets in order to design a proposed well trajectory in depth or in time.
Epos data management: The system of choice for data management and administration The Epos data management system is consolidating its position as the system of choice not only for project data management, but also as a powerful data administration solution. With deployments covering hundreds of users in near and remote locations in the same company, Epos successfully tackles the real-life situations that are frequently encountered by energy companies of every size. Paradigm 2011 adds new capabilities and performance enhancements, including incremental back-up and restore, improved GIS tools for data search, selection and move, and more.
Leveraging modern hardware capabilities The new release introduces code branches that utilize the Intel^® AVX instructions, enabling customers to take full advantage of the performance capabilities of the latest generation of Intel 64 architecture microprocessors. Seismic migration, volume rendering and automatic modeling processes have been developed to take advantage of the new graphic processing unit (GPU) highly parallelized compute power, accelerating by 10x or more many intensive computations.

	For the seismic processing and imaging communities, this release introduces breakthrough technology in the area of full-azimuth imaging, analysis and characterization, with huge implications for fractured and stressed reservoir assets. It also includes significant enhancements to the Reverse Time Migration for imaging in areas of complex wave phenomena, a restructured Surface Related Multiple Suppression program for improved performance and usability, a new pencil repository for exchange and QC of velocity data and structural data, multi-core semblance calculations to accelerate the velocity model building process, and additional geologic constraints for velocity model updating with the anisotropic grid tomography solution.
	For the interpretation and seismic characterization communities, the Paradigm 2011 release enhances the usability, performance and functionality of its primary multi-survey viewers. Object identification, contextual menus, and an innovative user-defined pie menu greatly improve the user experience. The release expands the scope of the interpreter’s work by incorporating pre-stack data and seismic inversion operations into the interpretation canvas, and by greatly improving the visualization and analysis of projects that use many seismic data attributes. It incorporates a game-changing voxel rendering method with real-time operations that take advantage of GPGPU (General Purpose Graphic Processing Units).
	The Paradigm 2011 release incorporates significant performance, usability and functionality enhancements to its well log correlation and section application, with automatic correlations, automatic mapping, and support for production data. Collaborative geologic and seismic interpretation workflow processes are more transparent with this release, with the convenience of data round-tripping.
	Geoscientists will enjoy the convenience and power of Paradigm’s interpretation while modeling workflows, with immediate identification and correction of interpretation errors, and immediate and improved identification of stratigraphic features carried out in true 3D paleo-space. This game-changing workflow reduces iterations between the interpretation and modeling processes while ensuring the integrity and use of all interpretation data and better models for seismic inversion and volumetric calculations.
	For the modeling communities, users of the Paradigm 2011 release will be able to take advantage of the benefits resulting from the engineering of its modeling solvers for GPGPU’s, with performance gains of 5-10X for fault, horizon and flow simulation grid construction. Velocity modelers will enjoy using SKUA technology to generate structurally-sealed and stratigraphically-constrained velocity models. Exploration modelers are able to carry out prospect analysis while modeling, including fault juxtaposition and shale-gouge ratio analysis. Structural geologists are able to perform true 3D basin restoration with quantitative assessments of fracture probability. Finally, reservoir modelers and engineers are able to analyze and visualize time-dependent data (completion, production, simulation), screen models in support of history matching workflows, and better understand fluid flow with new analysis capabilities.
